In Switzerland, almost a third of all produced food ends up in waste every year (2.8 million tons per year), which has far-reaching and unnecessary consequences for animals, humans, and our planet.

The non-profit association Madame Frigo therefore uses public refrigerators and awareness measures to combat food waste in Switzerland. True to the motto "Plate instead of bin," food can be exchanged at the current 90 locations across Switzerland — bringing what is no longer needed and taking what is currently missing at home. Together with over 400 volunteers, more than 100 tons of food were saved last year.

Together against Food Waste

Despite these great advances, there is still much to be done. For 2022, Madame Frigo has set the goal of increasing the number of locations to 150! With the help of their current Christmas Donation Campaign, Madame Frigo aims to reach this target as quickly as possible. Every single donation contributes to the fight against food waste and creates a more sustainable future. Additionally, Madame Frigo also raises awareness about food waste through their website and social media to encourage as many people as possible to participate.

For this reason, Madame Frigo relies on donations and support from individuals and partners to be able to cover their expenses.

What's behind Madame Frigo

To ensure the maintenance of the refrigerators, each Madame Frigo refrigerator is operated by volunteers. They take care of the hygienic maintenance and control of the contents.
