On this year's Black Friday, which fell on November 24, online Comerciantes of Payrexx recorded a significant increase in sales. This year's sales even surpass those of the Corona year 2020, when online commerce boomed and purchasing was mostly done online.

The Swiss payment provider Payrexx conducted a data survey with 900 typical SME companies (small and medium enterprises with 1–100 employees). The companies included Comerciantes from various industries such as event services, traditional online shops, healthcare services, education, and gastronomy.

Online sales on Black Friday up by 107 percent

Compared to the previous week's Friday, the online sales processed via the Payrexx payment platform more than doubled on Black Friday. The exact growth is 107% between the two weeks, despite declining shopping cart values of consumers. The highest sales times on Black Friday were between 9 AM and 3 PM, as shown in the following graph.

Sales increase compared to previous years

Compared to the previous year, there is a trend towards higher sales on Black Friday. Compared to Black Friday 2022, the analysis of the average transaction volume per Comerciant shows an increase of about 34%. While the volume last year was on average EUR 1,106 per Comerciant, this year it was EUR 1,476 on Black Friday.

Even compared to the year 2020, when more online purchases were made due to the Corona pandemic (an average of seven transactions and EUR 1,356 revenue per Comerciant), this year's sales on Black Friday are at a record high with an average of twelve transactions and EUR 1,476 revenue per Comerciant.

Number of online purchases increased by 71 percent since 2020

The increasing sales despite lower shopping cart values can be explained as follows: while the average shopping cart value of consumers has been decreasing since 2020 (-28%), the number of transactions in online shops has been steadily increasing since 2020 (+71%). This means that while people are spending less money, they are shopping online more frequently.

Data collection

The data show an analysis of the transactions processed via the Payrexx platform. The analysis is based on a sample of 900 e-commerce companies. The measurement includes data from 13.11.2023, 26.11.2023, 25.11.22, 26.11.21, and 27.11.20 between 0:00 and 23:59.
