Sub-Comerciante

A sub-Comerciante is a seller or Comerciante who receives payments through a platform or marketplace — without needing their own contract with the acquirer or PSP.

Sub-Comerciante

A sub-Comerciante is a Comerciante that accepts payments through a parent platform (the master Comerciante or payment facilitator). The sub-Comerciante does not have its own contract with the acquirer or card network — instead, payment processing runs through the master Comerciante.

The sub-Comerciante model is the basis for marketplaces: every seller on the platform is a sub-Comerciante who is identified (KYC), verified, and activated for payouts via the platform's PSP. The PSP ensures that each sub-Comerciante meets regulatory requirements.

For platform operators, the sub-Comerciante model is attractive because sellers can be onboarded quickly without each individual seller having to conclude their own acquiring contract. The PSP handles KYC, compliance, and payouts. The platform controls commissions and fees via the API.

Sub-Comerciante Examples

A craftsman registers on a service marketplace. He is created as a sub-Comerciante with the PSP, undergoes KYC and can receive payments after verification.

A platform onboards 200 sellers as sub-Comerciantes. Each receives their own Comerciante ID, but all run under the platform's PSP contract.

A sub-Comerciante receives weekly payouts from the PSP — minus the platform commission, which is automatically retained via split payment.

Sub-Comerciante FAQ

What is a sub-merchant?

A sub-Comerciante is a seller on a platform or a marketplace who receives payments via the platform's PSP — without their own acquirer contract.

Does a sub-merchant require KYC?

Yes, every sub-Comerciante must be identified and verified (KYC). Generally, the PSP performs this check before the sub-Comerciante can receive payouts.

What is the difference between Sub-Merchant and Comerciante?

A Comerciante has their own contract with a PSP or acquirer. A sub-Comerciante is connected to a platform and uses its PSP contract — they do not need their own.

How are sub-comerciantes paid out?

The PSP pays out directly to Sub-Comerciantes' bank accounts — minus the platform commission and transaction fees. Depending on the configuration, the payout takes place daily, weekly, or monthly.
