Fjona Veselji has been part of Payrexx AG, a Payment Company from Thun, since 2019. As Chief Operating Officer (COO), she assumes a key function in the company and since the beginning of July 2022, she now strengthens the executive management of Payrexx AG.

In the interview, she and CEO Ivan Schmid discuss her new role and explain where Payrexx's journey should go.

Fjona, who are you and what brings you to Payrexx AG?

“I am Fjona, 30 years old and come from the charming tourist town of Interlaken. I studied at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and at the South East European University and hold a Master of Science in Online-Business & Marketing as well as a Bachelor in Information Systems & Management.

I dedicate my free time to family, sports and creativity. I really enjoy being outdoors in nature and am not afraid to try new things. All these activities give me energy and help me maintain a healthy work-life balance, which is not always easy in such a leadership position.

I have always been interested in new and innovative business models and find it fascinating how outdated industries are being revolutionised.

The payment industry is a fast-paced and highly controversial market. It requires a high level of professionalism in a still casual work environment. Additionally, the industry is strongly characterised by innovation, technological progress and regulatory requirements.

It is exactly these interests that have brought me to Payrexx — a Payment Company in the heart of the Bernese Oberland? What could be more exciting.”

You have been part of the executive management of Payrexx since 1st July 2022. What is your exact role at Payrexx and which new challenges are you most looking forward to?

“At Payrexx, I am responsible for the operational area and daily business. Among other things, I lead the areas of Customer Support, Onboarding, KYC, Compliance and take care of our acquiring partnerships.

It is my responsibility to ensure that daily business runs as smoothly as possible, operational processes are defined and optimised to ensure maximum efficiency and continuous development.

As a financial intermediary, Payrexx is subject to strict regulatory guidelines. Finding the right balance — always remaining compliant while still able to offer a simple Payment solution is a big challenge, which I am happy to tackle.”

Ivan, why was Fjona included in the executive management?

“Fjona is a very reliable and honest person who enriches the executive management of Payrexx, on one hand with her in-depth expertise, but also with her analytical thinking.

Moreover, as a compliance officer, she has extensive knowledge of the legal compliance of all Payment processes and business operations within Payrexx.”

Payrexx AG was founded in 2015 in Thun and since then many exciting projects and topics have emerged. Fjona, what would you describe as the most important milestones at Payrexx?

“Payrexx is the only Payment platform in Switzerland that offers local payment methods like TWINT, Postfinance, Mastercard, VISA, Samsung Pay, Google Pay and Apple Pay from a single source and with an acceptance contract. Every successful registration before 4 p.m. is checked and activated on the same day.

With over 100+ other available payment types on the Payment platform, the needs of European Traders are fully met.

Payrexx is also one of the few providers that have set up an in-house developed Payment platform and offer tailor-made e-commerce tools like the Mini-Shop, QR-Pay, Payment links, etc. But the biggest milestone I see is our team. Payrexx possesses an incredible internal maker culture, a very ambitious and professional team that drives the Payment world forward every day with the greatest enthusiasm.”

Which projects and topics are important for Payrexx in addition, what should be tackled or are already in the works?

“We want to provide access to e-commerce trade for everyone, with an easy-to-use and integrated Payment solution. Automation remains and will be a major topic, we want to become faster and better. The expansion of our platform product is also on the agenda. The trend and popularity of marketplaces continue to rise, Payrexx already offers tailor-made marketplace and platform solutions. Here we want to be able to deliver even more functions and integration possibilities to third-party systems.”
