Allow your clientele to pay easily and quickly, with all common Swiss payment methods, straightforward and secure from one source? No problem, thanks to the Thun start-up Payrexx. The payment provider has made it its mission to enable everyone to enter the world of commerce. Until now, Payrexx primarily focused on the internet, but with its project “Payrexx QR Pay,” it is now conquering local businesses as well. And all this without expensive equipment or complex technology. For this bold move, the company Payrexx received special recognition: It was awarded one of the three innovation prizes of Volkswirtschaft Berner Oberland. This honour was awarded on 11 January during the New Year's aperitif of the Volkswirtschaft Berner Oberland at the magnificent Hotel Viktoria-Jungfrau in Interlaken.“This prize is not just an award, but also an incentive. It confirms that innovation and the courage to take risks pay off and that we are on the right path in our vision to enrich the economy of the Bernese Oberland”, says Ivan Schmid, Founder and CEO of Payrexx.

This is how Payrexx QR Pay worksFor comerciantes, Payrexx QR Pay offers many advantages. For example, a small coffee shop does not need an expensive credit card reader but can create the QR code themselves with Payrexx, print it out, and attach it to the checkout. Or the flower comerciante at the weekly market attaches a QR code directly to his bouquets so that market strollers no longer have to queue at the till but can pay directly and take their bouquet with them. In advance, the comerciante defines a fixed, open or minimum amount. The latter is particularly suitable for tips or donations.

Once created and printed, the QR code can easily be placed on a counter or a product. Just scan and pay.
The end customers, in turn, can scan the QR code directly via the TWINT app or the camera function of their smartphones. In this way, Payrexx extends the payment methods of TWINT: Payrexx QR Pay offers customers a variety of worldwide payment options to choose from, such as Google Pay, PostFinance, Apple Pay, Visa, Mastercard, AliPay or WeChat Pay. This opens the market to foreign visitors, making Payrexx QR Pay particularly interesting for the tourism sector. Payrexx QR Pay also proves very useful for vending machines and all kinds of unattended terminals, as a suitable QR code is dynamically generated via the interface for each payment.

Strengthening the local economy
In addition to agility and innovation, strengthening the region is also one of Payrexx’s goals. The payment provider has always focused on Swiss SMEs, including companies from the Bernese Oberland. No matter how small a business may be or how little technical know-how the operators have: Payrexx enables everyone to sell their goods online or on-site without having to get entangled in complex negotiations with banks or credit card providers. Moreover, Payrexx actively enters into partnerships with Swiss companies: in recent years, partnerships with TWINT, Reka, NAKA, Centi, Bob invoice, and HeidiPay have been established.
As a continuously growing company in the heart of Thun, Payrexx actively creates training and job opportunities. Last year alone, four new positions were filled. At the same time, Payrexx is used by comerciantes from all over the world. This international appeal, coupled with the regional efforts and innovative thinking of the young company, probably convinced the jury of Volkswirtschaft Berner Oberland.

Project manager Stefan Burri, Sales and Marketing Director Andrea Hilfiker, and Managing Director Ivan Schmid present the innovation prize.
