QR Invoice
The QR-bill is the Swiss standard for invoices with a machine-readable QR code that contains all payment information and enables automatic payment reconciliation via IBAN or QR-IBAN.
QR Invoice
The QR-bill replaced the old payment slips (ESR, ES) in Switzerland in 2022. It contains a Swiss QR Code with all payment-relevant information: recipient's IBAN (or QR-IBAN), amount, currency, reference number, and payment reason. Customers scan the QR code with their banking app and trigger the payment directly.
For Comerciantes, the QR-bill offers the advantage of automatic payment reconciliation: via the QR reference (formerly ESR reference number) or the SCOR reference, every payment can be uniquely assigned to an invoice. The credit notification is made via camt.054 (ISO 20022).
In e-commerce, the QR-bill is offered as a payment method in the checkout — as an alternative to instant payments such as credit card or TWINT. The advantage: no transaction fees for the payment method itself (only the PSP fee applies). The disadvantage: the payment process is asynchronous — the Comerciante has to wait for receipt of payment before shipping.
QR-bill examples
An online shop offers the QR-bill as a payment method at the checkout. The customer receives a PDF invoice with a QR code by email and pays via their banking app.
A B2B company sends 500 QR-bills monthly. Thanks to the QR reference and camt.054, incoming payments are automatically reconciled with open items.
A tradesperson generates a QR-bill via a payment link after completing a job — the customer can pay immediately by scanning or transfer the amount within 30 days.
QR-bill FAQ
What is a QR-bill?
The QR-bill is the Swiss standard for invoices with a machine-readable QR code. It replaced the old payment slips in 2022 and enables payment by scanning using a banking app.
What is the difference between an IBAN and a QR-IBAN for a QR-bill?
The standard IBAN is used with the SCOR reference (Creditor Reference). The QR IBAN is used with the QR reference (formerly ISR reference) and enables automatic payment reconciliation via camt.054 messages.
Is the QR-bill suitable for online shops?
Yes, as a complementary payment method — especially for B2B customers and buyers who prefer purchase on invoice. The disadvantage: the payment is asynchronous, and dispatch should only take place after receipt of payment.
How much does the QR-bill cost as a payment method?
The QR-bill itself does not incur any transaction fees for the payment method. Only the PSP fees apply (e.g. 0.50–0.60% with Payrexx) as well as the usual bank fees for payment transactions.
