Sub-Comerciante
A sub-merchant is a seller or Comerciante who receives payments via a platform or marketplace — without needing their own contract with the acquirer or PSP.
Sub-Comerciante
A sub-merchant is a Comerciante who accepts payments through an overarching platform (the master Merchant or payment facilitator). The sub-merchant does not have their own contract with the acquirer or card network — instead, payment processing runs via the master Comerciante.
The sub-merchant model is the foundation for marketplaces: every seller on the platform is a sub-merchant who is identified (KYC), verified, and activated for payouts via the platform's PSP. The PSP ensures that each sub-merchant meets the regulatory requirements.
The sub-merchant model is attractive for platform operators because sellers can be onboarded quickly without each individual having to conclude their own acquiring contract. The PSP handles KYC, compliance, and payouts. The platform controls commissions and fees via the API.
Sub-Comerciante examples
A craftsman registers on a service marketplace. He is set up as a sub-Comerciante with the PSP, goes through KYC, and can receive payments after verification.
A platform onboards 200 sellers as sub-Comerciantes. Each receives their own Comerciante ID, but all run under the platform's PSP contract.
A sub-Comerciante receives weekly payouts from the PSP — minus the platform commission, which is automatically withheld via split payment.
Sub-Merchant FAQ
What is a sub-Comerciante?
A sub-Comerciante is a seller on a platform or a marketplace that receives payments via the platform's PSP — without their own acquirer agreement.
Does a sub-merchant require KYC?
Yes, each sub-Merchant must be identified and verified (KYC). Usually, the PSP carries out this check before the sub-Merchant can receive payouts.
What is the difference between Sub-Merchant and Comerciante?
A Comerciante has their own contract with a PSP or Acquirer. A sub-Comerciante is connected to a platform and uses its PSP contract — they do not need their own.
How are sub-comerciantes paid out?
The PSP pays out to Sub-Comerciantes directly to their bank accounts — minus the platform commission and transaction fees. Depending on the configuration, payout occurs on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
