On this year's Black Friday, which fell on the 24th of November, online retailers of Payrexx record an enormous increase in sales. This year's sales even surpass the revenues in the Corona year 2020, when online retail boomed and shopping was predominantly done online for some time.
The Swiss payment provider Payrexx conducted a data survey with 900 typical SME companies (small and medium-sized enterprises with 1–100 employees). The companies included retailers from various sectors such as event services, classic online shops, health services, education and gastronomy.
Online revenue on Black Friday 107 percent higher
In comparison to the previous Friday, the online revenues processed via the Payrexx payment platform on Black Friday more than doubled. The exact growth was 107% between the two weeks, despite declining shopping basket values of consumers. The peak times for revenue on Black Friday were between 9 and 15 o'clock, as shown by the following graphic.

Increase in revenue compared to previous years
Year-on-year, there is a trend of higher revenues on Black Friday. Compared to Black Friday 2022, the analysis of the average transaction volume per retailer showed an increase of around 34%. While the volume was at an average of CHF 1'106 per retailer last year, it was CHF 1'476 this year on Black Friday.
Even compared to the year 2020, when online shopping increased significantly due to the Corona pandemic (an average of seven transactions and CHF 1’356 revenue per retailer), this year's revenues on Black Friday are at a record high with an average of twelve transactions and CHF 1’476 revenue per retailer.
Number of online purchases increased by 71 percent since 2020
The rising revenues despite lower basket values can be explained as follows: while the average basket value of consumers has been decreasing since 2020 (-28%), the number of transactions in online shops has been steadily increasing since 2020 (+71%). This means that although less money is spent, online shopping is done more frequently.
