What is the difference between a POS terminal, card terminal and card reader?
All of these terms refer to devices that can process card payments. However, there are minor differences in their usage:
Card reader: The most general term, which can also include devices that only read cards but do not necessarily process payments.
Card terminal: A common term for devices specifically used for card payments.
Payment terminal: Similar to "card terminal", but places greater emphasis on its function as a payment solution.
POS terminal: An internationally common term for a "Point of Sale" device, i.e. a payment terminal in retail.
POS device: Used less frequently, but generally describes hardware for payment transactions at points of sale.
In practice, "card terminal", "payment terminal" and "POS terminal" are often used synonymously, while "card reader" is broader. Payrexx still refers to the latter term because it is low-threshold and easy to understand.
Which is the best card reader?
The three Payrexx card readers all have similar user interfaces, but differ in the following ways:
The Newland N910 Pro not only impresses with its clean white design, but also brings several technical advantages. For example, tokenization, offline payments, connections to all common POS systems, and split payments are planned for it. These features will be developed and added gradually. Thanks to the integrated SIM card and receipt printer, this terminal is the all-rounder of the Payrexx range.
The Nexgo N86 is Payrexx's most robust POS terminal and, thanks to the integrated receipt printer, can be used anywhere. It is the largest of all Payrexx terminals, making it ideal for stationary retail.
The size of the Nexgo N6 is reminiscent of a smartphone, fitting perfectly into any pocket. However, receipts cannot be printed here, and the battery is slightly less powerful. Accordingly, this card reader is suitable for mobile merchants who do not rely on printed receipts.
Can I use the card reader privately?
Yes, that is possible! Payrexx card readers are available not only for SMEs but also for private individuals. This allows you to accept payments easily and securely, whether for flea markets, private sales, or other occasions.
How much does a card reader cost?
The rental price for a Payrexx card reader is standardly 25 CHF per month. Thanks to the introductory promotion for the N910 Pro, however, you can benefit from renting it free of charge for the first 6 months. In addition, this is currently the only device that can also be purchased for 599.- CHF.
The transaction costs vary depending on the subscription. In the paid subscriptions (InStore Better Fees, Standard, and Premium), they amount to 0.95% + 0.15 CHF for debit cards, 1.25% + 0.15 CHF for credit cards, and 1.25% + 0.00 CHF for TWINT payments. For international payments, the fees are 3.1% + 0.15 CHF. The fees in the conventional InStore subscription (without monthly fixed costs) are marginally higher. You can find all the information here.
Kann ich Payrexx Tap to Pay auf meinem iPhone installieren?
No, unfortunately not. For now, the Payrexx application is exclusively available for Android devices. We would love to be available in the Apple Store one day, but this step is associated with a high financial risk that Payrexx cannot currently bear.
Welche Zahlungsmethoden kann ich mit einem Kartenlesegerät akzeptieren?
The card terminals from Payrexx support Mastercard, Visa, Apple Pay, TWINT, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and PostFinance Pay. With the Nexgo terminals, you can also accept payments via cryptocurrencies (using the NAKA card).
How secure are card readers?
