Tap to Pay, also known as SoftPOS, is a technology that allows merchants to use their smartphone as a payment terminal. This enables them to accept payments without any additional hardware.

Tap to Pay is an application that must be installed on the device. It allows merchants to accept contactless payments via credit and debit cards (Visa and Mastercard), TWINT, or mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay.

Transactions are carried out using NFC technology. This “Near Field Communication” is an international standard based on RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identificator), which enables contactless data exchange. This allows payment information to be transmitted quickly, securely, and without physical contact.

The payment process with Payrexx Tap to Pay involves the following steps:

1. Select the desired payment method (card or TWINT).

2. Enter the amount to be paid.

3. Your customers can now either hold their card near your smartphone, open their mobile wallet and hold their phone close to yours, or scan the displayed TWINT code using their TWINT app.

4. Done! The transaction is complete and the amount will be transferred to your Payrexx account within 48 hours.

The application works on all devices that meet the following requirements:

• Android operating system, version 8.1 or higher

• NFC compatibility

• Google Mobile Service

• TEE in a SoC (Trusted Execution Environment in a System on a Chip)

• Internet connection

Most of these requirements are met by all common modern smartphones. As long as you download Payrexx Tap to Pay from the Google Play Store and your phone hasn’t been modified or set to developer mode, the app should work without any issues.

No, unfortunately not.

This isn’t due to Payrexx, but to Apple: the company has not yet enabled this payment technology for Switzerland. As soon as Apple does, Payrexx Tap to Pay will be available for all iPhones as well.

With Payrexx Tap to Pay, your customers can pay using the following payment methods:

• Mobile wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay)
